Hello everyone and welcome to episode 8 of the Link Through Social Podcast, your go-to source for everything social media, digital trends, and the rapidly evolving world of AI. I'm your host, Paul Wright. Later on in the show, we're very happy to have the founder of Grow OS, David Pokeri, join us. His company manages over $35 million per month in Google Ad Spend with fully autonomous AI agents. It'll be very interesting to talk to him, but let's first get to some of the week's other topics. OpenAI may launch a phone in 2028 that can replace apps with AI agents. It seems smartphones in the coming years will not require the apps and will do almost every big task on your behalf. According to a new report, Sam Altman's OpenAI is working on a new kind of smartphone that could completely change how we use our devices. Former Apple design chief Joni Ivy is also working closely with the company behind the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT to create new AI-first devices. According to popular tipster and Apple analyst Ming Chi Ku, OpenAI is planning an AI agent phone that focuses on getting things done rather than making users jump between multiple apps. Very interesting. This means instead of opening different apps for every task, the phone itself will understand what you need and complete it for you. OpenAI is working with Media Tech and Qualcomm to develop smartphone processors with Luxhare as the exclusive system to co-design and manufacture this as their partner. Mass production is expected in 2028, Ku wrote on Elon Musk's own social media platform X. Next, V26.12 of Smart Post is rolling out a new version on its iOS and Android, including the TikTok auto audio setting. Auto audio setting. That's a tricky one. You can find all of this on the Smart Post app website, smartpostapp.com. Next, what's new in threads? API? Well, cross-share to Instagram stories seamlessly via a linked Instagram account for additional distribution. Text attachments. Now it will allow you your posts to be up to 10,000 characters and include formatting, bold, italic, underline, strike through, highlighter. Very cool. Ghost posts create for unfiltered thoughts that auto-archive after 24 hours. Spoilers for text, image, and video. Add tags to posts containing text, images, or videos, including carousels, and users tap to reveal the hidden content. And gift support. Add to your posts using Giphy. So Threads is once again really uh coming through with some new features. We talked about this last week. You should go on Threads. Uh maybe you were one of those people when it first launched that we're all excited and signed up your account through Instagram and uh now you haven't even looked at it. Give it a try again. So we'll be back right after this brief message from our sponsor. Tired of stressing over what to post on social media? SmartPost App because your content should work for you. Welcome back to the Link Through Social Podcast. And as I promised at the top of the show, we have an incredible guest here for us today from a former private equity investor at HIG Capital who managed over $75 billion in assets to seven-figure e-commerce entrepreneur. David Pokwari is the founder of GrowAss AI. Welcome to the show. Thank you. It's great to be here. David, tell me you were in private equity. You had some e-commerce uh sites. And uh what made you pivot to what is now known as Growass AI?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, look, it's a good question, right? Uh where do I start? How far back do I go? Um I was I was working in private equity obviously before I actually venture capital. Um hating life, okay, between us, right? Not in not enjoying what I was doing day to day at all, just long hours. Um and I knew I had to do something entrepreneurial, like I was had that itch within me, and I've done some stuff before. Um so basically started thinking, okay, what can I do online that I can start making money with whilst having a very demanding full-time job in travel?
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_02Um and I I looked at all the business models, and basically e-comm, e-commerce was like one where like, okay, I can dedicate weekends to it uh and late nights, and then during the day, sales can come in and then have to do like customer support, that sort of thing. Um and that was great, right? So like I ran up a lot of dropshipping stores to like pretty big numbers. Um you see what you see in real life when doing e-com is that the margins are trash, right? Like five to ten percent, yeah, five to ten percent net margins. This isn't doing if you're doing dropshipping, if you're doing branded, like yeah, maybe more. But anyway, um so like okay, this is just not enough to leave a a job in private equity for obvious reasons. So uh and I during this period, by the way, I got very good at Google Ads, network ads, all this sort of stuff.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Uh and I started to see things in Google Ads. I'm like, huh, there's some things here that I would do differently. Like, there's some things that are included here that would really benefit me, that maybe I could build on top of Google Ads that could benefit other people. And then, you know, long story short, that's sort of sort of what led to grass. But then it started off as a little SaaS, like a little recommendations tool that people used to use, and now we've evolved into a normal.
SPEAKER_00And uh yes, I I had a look at your uh site, and um it just it's just incredible what you've uh what you've basically put together here. So it's an AI-powered tool, uh, fully autonomous AI agents that replace the need for human marketers entirely.
SPEAKER_02Right. And I it was extremely hard to get to this point, by the way, right? Full autonomy means no human oversight needed to outperform what a trained professional PPC manager can do when managing a cathead. That's a really hard task to do. That's like really complicated. Um, and so for context, again, we released when we started GRASS, we released this super low-ticket offer. It was like $99 or even $49 at the start, for up a 2k month of ad spend. But what that did is it gave us lots and lots of users across lots of different niches, locations, etc. etc. And that gave us the training data to in our own custom models to basically build towards Phil Top. Um, so we had this little SaaS thing, uh, it was great. I mean, it was pretty unimpressive. It did do some stuff on Dano landing pages, et cetera, et cetera. Uh, but yeah, basically that prompted a six-month rebuild towards okay, how can we go from a tool to now this online team effectively? It's like an online team of Asians that run your campaigns.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_02Uh, and that was that was really tough.
SPEAKER_00That's that's that's absolutely amazing. Now, the you know, marketing agencies out there, you know, they they are spending you know a lot of money on ad space and and what have you. You know, what what what are some of the what what are some of the flaws that marketing agencies are doing in today's world with this evolving world of AI?
SPEAKER_02I mean, yeah, we can really speak to that better than anyone. Why? Because we have two types of customers, right? One, it's people who have fired their marketing agency and then bring everything to grass, right? So we look at the mess that's been done. And then two, we also have marketing agencies ourselves as customers who just use grass to like do nothing all day, right? Right. And charge their clients for the difference. So literally, that's uh that's one of those. Um yeah, I mean, look, I think the the big theme is that uh typically what tends to happen is well, first you have to remember that anyone in the world can spin up the marketing loops. You can register in domain, put up some little case studies, make them up, for most people do. Yes, uh, and then and then and then after start charging people on the internet money for yourself. Um what often happens is they'll sign a big retainer with a client, they'll lock them in for like three, six months, and then they'll outsource all of that work to somewhere else. I don't know, whatever it is, right? Philippines, India, Pakistan, a lot of people out there who do that.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02Um and then presenting a friendly face on the on the individual. So it's just it's purely a labor arbitrage. Uh and it also creates a lot of misaligned incentives. Because also the way they structure things is sometimes like a percentage of accent, they'll try to get you to spend more and decided to get better results.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_02So it's a whole it's a whole mess. Um, so I think what we're gonna see now in the next few years is is the industry shaking up part of it.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I I I agree. Uh you know, I'm I'm always looking for new guests to to come on the show. And you're right, there's a lot of there's a lot of noise out there. They're actually nothing, and uh they're they're not legitimate, they're not uh actually out there helping people and that. So when um uh we came across each other and connected, I I thought this was a a great um person to have on here because you know this uh this company that you've uh developed is absolutely amazing. And uh um what what what are some of the things in the near future that you're looking to expand with?
SPEAKER_02Question. We we've debated this heavily, right? So right now we only do Google Ads, and and believe me, that was hard enough to do in and of itself. Um now the actually the the thing that a lot of agencies might do is SEO as well. So do PPC and SEO. Uh and so we actually did start to look at building something that we done, like something similar for SEO. Uh we were like, I was talking to the engineers, you know, we spent a good few weeks thinking about this, how we could even build it. And we actually stopped it. We actually have not proceeded with that. Why is that? And the reason is because I don't know what edge we have in that in that market, in that space. There are countless startups building SEO, whatever, countless, super well funded. I don't have in Google Ads, we have an edge. We were like the first to do this. Like that that's gonna compound, that compounds month on month. In SEO, I don't know what edge we have. I don't think we do, right? Um so the short answer is we are going to do other things. Uh I can't reveal too much, but I can say it will probably stay in the paid ad space rather than doing the organic, which is a whole other beast, it's a beast, a whole other thing. I don't think we have an edge in that. We will stay probably with the paid ads.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's a that's exciting to see what uh what lays ahead. Uh and just lastly, for uh we have a lot of small business owners that um are listeners to the podcast. And by the way, thank you for all the downloads we've had in the last few weeks. Uh we keep growing every week and we appreciate the community that we're building here. Um, what advice would you have for the small business owners that are uh wanting to uh do Google Ads? Uh they don't have a large budget. Um, you know, a couple quick tips of what they should be looking for and how they should be implementing their projects.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, look, um Google Ads is something I think you need some budget for, right? So I would say minimum, you need, I think, $2,000, maybe less, it depends on the industry in your niche, but you do need some budget set aside to test. And the second thing is if you're brand new to user ads, you've never run them before, there's gonna be a learning code for Google, for you, or for everybody involved. Um I think you need to give it a fair shake, right? You need I think I think two to three months if you're brand new to ULAD is enough to know, okay, can my business scale with this, right? Uh and then this question becomes okay, should I do this myself or should I outsource? Um by all means, try doing it yourself. Google is tricky. Um, but if you have people that you can run.
SPEAKER_01It's always changing.
SPEAKER_02It's always changing, it's really tough. Um and if if you are gonna bring on somebody with an in-house, an agency, a freelancer, whatever it is, all I ask, I really recommend this, is ask to see case studies. They should have as many as possible, right? Five or ten at least, and then see from those case studies they can give you direct intros to those people they're saying they did the work for. You'd be astounded by the number of fake case studies that we see. Absolutely astounded. People just slap on a logo, we did XYZ. That company has never heard of them. Happens all of the time. Um, so yeah, I would say if you have case, try get in touch with the case studies they they claim they've done it.
SPEAKER_00Okay, well, thank you very much, David. So AI runs your entire Google Ads account. Rowas.ai is your website. And um I encourage everyone to check that out. And if uh they have any further uh inquiries, I'm sure through the website you can reach out to David and his team and uh they'll get back to you. Appreciate you having uh having you on the show today, David. All the best, and uh perhaps we can reconnect again uh down the road.
SPEAKER_02Thank you. Yeah, it was a pleasure. Hope you do it again. Thank you.
